Maker Spotlight: Murrell's Row Spirits

Murrell's Row Spirits out of Decatur GA, is a distillery founded by three individuals, well-seasoned in the restaurant and bar industry - Bo Brown, Lee Mayfield, and Nathan Evick. With over 40 years of combined experience, they decided to open a distillery in 2015, aiming to leverage their expertise as bartenders to create a range botanical spirits that stand out and shine in cocktails.

With a lot of self-education and support from other small distillery owners, they started the licensing process in 2019 and finally received their distilling license in late 2022, with their first bottle sold in December of that year.

What sets Murrell's Row Spirits apart is their focus on botanical spirits like gin and amaro, which are underrepresented in the Southeast. They use Spicewalla Juniper, Green Cardamom, and Celery Seed for their products, with the juniper being a blend of multiple junipers for a more well-rounded flavor. All their products are made in small batches, using a 40-gallon still, and are bottled by hand.

Their flagship product, Tulsi Gin, is a "New American Style" gin that features a supporting role for juniper and other flavors that stand out. Made with Holy Basil (Tulsi Basil), Green Cardamom, and Lemon, this gin is 94 proof and full-bodied, with complex and aromatic flavors that shine in cocktails.

GinGin, on the other hand, is a classic "London Dry Style" gin, designed for juniper lovers and those who appreciate a classic Martini. Made with a blend of Juniper, Coriander, Lemon, Angelica Root, and Celery Seed, it is also 94 proof and full-bodied, with a well-rounded flavor profile.

Although Murrell's Row Spirits is currently only available in Georgia, they plan to expand outside the state in 2024. The founders are passionate about their craft and are excited to see their products being used in cocktails across the food service industry. They believe that gin is a spirit that offers room for creativity, and they are committed to producing high-quality products that leave a lasting impression.
