Spiced Cold Toddy

Spiced Cold Toddy

We're all familiar with the infamous hot toddy, especially when the weather is nippy and your bones need a warmin'---but have you ever met it's hip, younger, au courant, COOL cousin the cold toddy? Sure, the hot toddy is a cocktail classic, but let's make way for this trendsetter who's got style and grace, and transforms your favorite wintry beverage into a cold tea punch (that is dangerously drinkable!)

  • Ingredients

    1 large orange
    6 lemons
    Spicewalla Cinnamon Sticks
    Spicewalla Black Cardamom Pods
    Spicewalla Whole Cloves
4" piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
    4 Earl Grey tea bags
    5oz honey
2 cups bourbon or rye (we suggest Rittenhouse Rye!)
    8 dashes of orange bitters

  • Print

    Preparation

    1. Use a vegetable peeler to peel orange and 1 lemon (although you can peel all the lemons if you’d like to use peels for garnish!)
    2. Place zest in a saucepan and add cinnamon sticks, black cardamom, cloves, ginger, tea bags, and 1 ¾ cups of water. Bring to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Let steep for 5 minutes.
    3. Remove tea bags, stir in honey, and allow to cool completely. Meanwhile, juice the peeled orange and lemons (you should end up with roughly 1 ¼ cups of juice altogether.)
    4. Strain tea mixture through a fine mesh strainer, and in a pitcher combine tea with lemon and orange juice, rye whiskey, orange bitters, and ice. Serve cold over ice and garnish with an orange or lemon twist!
