Campaign for Southern Equality

The Campaign for Southern Equality, based in Asheville, NC, works for full lived and legal equality for all LGBTQ Southerners. CSE's work is rooted in commitments to equity in race, gender, and class.

About the Campaign for Southern Equality

The Campaign for Southern Equality is working to build a South where LGBTQ people are equal in every part of life. A South where your zip code doesn’t determine your rights. Where all of us are free to be who we truly are and love who we truly love.

CSE uses an innovative combination of strategies to organize across the LGBTQ South. Our work takes us from church basements to federal courthouses as we deploy a cross-disciplinary range of strategies that includes direct services, community organizing, litigation, and grassroots grantmaking. We have filed lawsuits against discriminatory state laws, engaged in direct action to shine a spotlight on the need for the freedom to marry in Southern states, and trained thousands of medical providers and legal minds on LGBTQ-inclusive policies.

How You Can Help

LGBTQ Southerners were among many marginalized communities disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. To support grantees, Spicewalla is donating 25% of proceeds from select products in June to CSE's Southern Equality Fund. CSE is honored and grateful to partner with Spicewalla throughout Pride month.
